Primates House Indoors

21st February 2017
This photo makes the Primate House seem incredibly dated and old-fashioned. Is that carpet on the ground? Peeling paint, tarnished ceiling, etc. Is the facility actually open to the public? The blue tarps make it seem as if it is undergoing a renovation.

@snowleopard Yes, quite outdated and old-fashioned, though many of the indoor enclosures which presumably would have held one species each in the past have been joined together to give larger enclosures for each species. (this seemed to be a trend in the zoo - slightly modifying outdated enclosures to hold either fewer or smaller species to make them more acceptable, at least for the animals if not aesthetically.)

The floor is white tiles set into concrete, not carpet.

Yes, it is open to the public (most of the primates were indoors because of the cold so they would not be visible otherwise) and yes it actually is undergoing a minor renovation. It seemed that it was being repainted and the mock rock inside the enclosures was also being redone and there were a couple of people working on it when I was there (since each species has access to several of the indoor areas, they can work on one at a time without the need to remove animals. I should also point out that my visit was on a very overcast and slightly drizzly Tuesday on a random day in February so is probably one of the quietest days in the year for the zoo making it a very good day to do some renovations.

I have posted a few thoughts about the zoo in reply to @sooty mangabey here: Lodz Zoo - Bunch of news from Lodz if you're interested.
