Woodland Park Zoo - African Wild Dog Exhibit

September 2008. Varied terrain with a small stream, sandy shore, caves, hills, termite mound, etc all combine to make this easily one of the best african wild dog exhibits anywhere.

@GraysonDP I'm not sure that the zoo supplied an official reason, but the exhibit was not quite spacious enough for African Wild Dogs in my opinion. In 2012 the zoo opened a new exhibit for Visayan Warty Pigs in the Asian Tropical Forest, switched Warthogs in for the African Wild Dogs, and then also added Kunekune Pigs in the Family Farm area. It was the year of the pig at the zoo! Since Warthogs have been added the enclosure in this photo has become mainly all mud and dirt, with very little grassy areas left standing.

Woodland parks zoo seems to be a zoo which does natural exhibits that don’t look tacky in the slightest. Looks like they get good value for money (and it stays looking so good even with the weather disadvantage!)

IMO, they should probably transfer out Lily & Lupe and put the warthogs in their exhibit, so they could bring back painted dogs in this area (or maybe even spotted hyenas).
