That is strange, actually - if anything the trend is usually to switch to a geographic name in the hope of increasing local pride and thus gaining a conservation benefit (Sumatran Laughing-thrush, Andean Bear etc).
Maybe because Omei Shan isn't the only place it lives? A bit tenuous, and would mean Dartford Warbler needing to take a long, hard look at itself...
