When I stayed in Edinburgh a few years ago, my hotel was right across from this castle. It was probably within a block or two from where you were standing for this photo (I got a great night shot panorama from here).
Very easy to catch the bus to the zoo from here and of course to walk to the train station to get back to England. Not as easy trying to find my way out of city center and back in with a rental car going to Highland Wildlife Park (with a stick shift sitting on the wrong side of the car and driving on the wrong side of the road).
