This view is located by the new okapi exhibit that is along the path and is the most impressive view of the new exhibit. The small structure in the back is the underwater viewing.
If they were ever to move the okapis (part of a gorilla exhibit?) they could probably give the hippos access to that yard, or the wild dog yard but that is harder, because it has a giant termite mound as it's main viewing
The zoo is improving quite nicely and I like the direction the new director is taking the zoo.
Since he has been here a lot of exhibits have been renovated such as the lion exhibit, and soon the jaguar exhibit. As well as moving animals to nicer, newer exhibits (Anteater, Bat-eared Fox). I hope the zoo can remove it's bad label it has gotten on this website, because I don't think it is awful, but nothing amazing. But I may be biased because I'm from SA, but I have been to some of the best zoos in the US (Bronx, San Diego), so I know the San Antonio Zoo isn't a great zoo, just an above-average one with a couple bad exhibits.
