The polar bear exhibit in Copenhagen is part of the old bear caves. It was recently expanded a little outside of the picture, but the plan is to built a brand new enclosure for the bears sometime between 2008-2010.

The bear caves opened in 1951. The bears are actually surprisingly active here, and the keepers do a lot to enrich their day. The polar bear exhibit was expanded in 2005, prior to the arrival of the two new bears. The old pair was euthanized in 2004, at the ages of 35 and 34. They have breed many babies in the past, and fingers crossed that these new bears will as well.
