The whole Indonesian House? I found it very underwhelming as well. Probably the area of the zoo I enjoyed the least.
(Which says something about the overall quality of the zoo)
What's disappointing about this enclosure? It could use more shading, but it appears to be a decent size with lots of vertical space and climbing opportunities... does this picture distort its actual dimensions?
@FunkyGibbon I found the whole indonesian house very underwhelming and together with the inside portion of Africa Rocks and the polar bears the worst part of the zoo. The dome is just concrete and more concrete, with pathetically little jungle feeling. Most of the enclosures in the night house were extremely small and the indoor enclosures for the macaques, binturong and orang utan were underwhelming too. The only enclosures I liked where the ones for the smooth-coated otters and the komodo dragons...
@Coelacanth18 First it is really quite small for an enclosure opened about 13 years ago and it could do with a lot more shading indeed. The indoor enclosure is also underwhelming with huge fake concrete trees, leaving little room to actually roam. Apart from that there is just 1 indoor and 1 outdoor enclosure, which given what we know about orang utan group composition. This enclosure will become seriously outdated in 10-20 years and then keeping gibbons would fit much better (especially if they can fill the moat indoors and increase the size of the island and the height of the enclosure.
