Copenhagen Zoo - World of Primates

The outdoor enclosure for black-and-white ruffed lemurs in Copenhagen Zoo. This enclosure is part of the World of Primates building. The ruffed lemurs, along with the other primates, can also be viewed inside in quite spacious indoor enclosures.

The outdoor enclosure appears to be far too small for such a wide-ranging mammal.

I think saying "far too small" is a bit much. They actually have some of the best climbing possibilities I have seen in a ruffed lemur enclosure.

It does look a bit small though

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one ;)

Even though they have climbing oppurtunities they are still sitting on the ground. I think a larger ground area would be better.

they could just be sitting on the ground because thats where the sun is

I am not saying that this is an ideal exhibit. But it does have some good features. Ruffed lemurs spend most of their lives in the treetops and this exhibit is very tall so the lemurs can climb high up.

The exhibit also faces south so it is bathed in sun the whole day (weather depending). And yes, they are sunbathing is this photo. It was taken on the first day of spring in March 2007, so the lemurs just enjoyed being outside again:) That also explains why there are no green plants in this photo.
