I loved these aviaries: a quiet corner of the zoo, not ventured into by many visitors, but those who did so while I was there certainly seemed to be pausing, thinking, and observing. The fire-tufted barbets are an especial highlight, here - what a beautiful species!
These aviaries are some of the hidden gems to be found at the San Diego parks...like the Hummingbird Aviary...the Fern Canyon path with zero captive animals...and even the coati exhibit at the Safari Park. Near the coatis, down a short side path, are a couple of aviaries with Taveta Golden Weavers, Snowy-Crowned Robin Chats and Green-Naped Pheasant Pigeons. Did you see those @sooty mangabey ?
@snowleopard No - I didn't! And now, reading this as I eat my breakfast in sunny Sussex, I know I need to return. Due to the previously-posted list of all species at the place, I was aware of the presence of a weaver bird aviary, but didn't come across it. Next time!
