The elderly female aye-aye is much easier to photograph than the hyperactive young male. But my new DSLR produces much better results than my old one. The big question is how much should you tone down the red colour of the lighting? I have done it quite a bit here, because I believe that my brain does the same thing when I look at the animal directly.
Great capture, and a look four years into the future. The D500 is clearly a great step up in terms of higher ISO performance.
Our eyes do automatically white-balance, but only correct so far if the available spectrum is restricted as in this exhibit, so I think pulling out most, but not all of the red is probably the way to go. It's what I did.
Wonder if she was named after the Vodou spirit / goddess of the same name ? It seems that the zoo keepers at most zoos where aye-aye are kept have a great sense of humour and give them some excellently sinister names.
