the best I can do with this one is to say it's a bunting.

@Chlidonias The only buntings on the signage were Reed bunting and Black-faced bunting - would you like to hazard a guess?

of those two, Black-faced Bunting. (Which was actually my thoughts anyway, but I don't know which other buntings in Japan are similar so I was playing it safe!)

@Chlidonias Well it certainly looks like the photo in the signage of the black faced bunting - my other photo that you commented on doesn't look like the photo at all. Thanks anyway

@Chlidonias I've just uploaded another photo which I'm assuming is a black-faced bunting because it fits the description - what do you think? Looks quite different to either of the last two photos I posted

I think it's a female black faced bunting. Definitely not a reed bunting.
