African Lion Exhibit (one of several nasty-looking little carnivore cages)

July 15th, 2017.
Nasty indeed. This place seems to be teaching its students how not to display wild animals. It amazes me that an establishment such as this - and some of the others you have documented this summer - can continue to survive in California, where, one would have thought, public opinion would have risen against somewhere keeping animals in such bleak surroundings.

@sooty mangabey Of the 70 zoos in the state of California, there are definitely a few of them that are very dodgy and are packed with outdated, nasty-looking cages. Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary ("rescued animals"), America's Teaching Zoo (training keepers of the future!), Hesperia Zoo (judging from photos and the information I have about this temporarily closed institution), Monterey Zoo (although the new stuff there is excellent), Reptile Zoo, half of Santa Ana Zoo (which is no longer AZA-accredited), Shambala Preserve (judging from photos), Wildhaven Ranch (judging from photos) and Feline Conservation Center (although the breeding record there is exemplary) adds up to 9 zoos that are all a bit sketchy in sections. Also, a few of the state's aquariums are shambolic in both the depth and breadth of the exhibits on display.
