Amur tiger exhibit, picture 4 of 4

Copenhagen, March 1, 2009.

The tiger exhibit was built in the beginning of the 1980s. I estimate the size to something like 400-500 square meters, excluding the water moat. Bare in winter time, more green in the summer. Populated by a male and a female and now and then their off-spring. The latest litter (2 or 3 males if I remember correctly) moved to Borås Zoo in Sweden a few months ago.

During my visit the tigers were let inside for a while so that a keeper could go about her business in the exhibit - cleaning it, removing used up enrichment items, putting new ones in. Two big chunks of meat were buried under deep layers of tree branches. When the cats were let out the male immediately found one of the chunks of meat, grabbed it and quickly laid down inside the small cave and started to feast. The female had to look and sniff for a minute or two to find the other piece of meat.

Picture 1 shows the centre of the exhibit, picture 2 the left side and picture 3 the right side.

In picture 4 you see the water moat which is empty in the winter.

@Dan: Not to criticize on the quality of this particular photo, but how about you and I take a trip to the zoo, and you point out the exhibits that you want pictures of?:p A cell phone camera just isn't as good...

Haha... no offence taken! But don´t worry, Toddy - I WILL get myself a decent digital camera, it is just that I am so damn lazy when it comes to shopping. Sometimes it takes me years to actually go out and buy something that I have decided to buy (don´t ask me what year I finally bought a "COLOR TV"!!! :D:D:D...).

But I WILL buy that camera and I have already more or less decided on model etc: a Nikon D60 or D80 with two tele lenses: one 18-55 mm and one 55-200 mm. That should set me up fine for some serious zoo-photography. One of these weekends I will go out shopping this equipment...
