The Sumatran and Bornean Orangutans of Chester Zoo

As this is my 1,000 photo uploaded on ZooChat I thought I may dedicate it to my favourite species; Orangutans!
For those who want to know, the orangs are from left to right:
Emma (Sumatran female)
Tripa (Sumatran male)
Puluh (Sumatran male)
Subis (Sumatran female)
Siska (Sumatran female)
Tuti (Sumatran female)
Willie (Bornean male)
Leia (Bornean female)
Sarikei (Bornean female)
Tuan (Bornean male)
Martha (Bornean female)
Tombol (Bornean male)

They used to do these sorts of identity charts(or 'mug shots') for Gorillas and Orangs at a lot of zoos but now the focus seems to be more on the situation in the wild/immersive exhibits and in many zoos there's a trend for the zoo residents to become anonymous, at least as far as displaying them to visitors is concerned.

The two female Sumatrans Emma and Subis are grandaughters of the original Bristol(sumatran) pair Henry & Anne, via their first offspring 'Oscar'. 'Silvestre' at Monkeyworld is more distantly related to them, via Anne also.

I've always maintained that being able to ID individuals can lead to a greater interest in the species. I often hear small children saying 'that's the mummy one and that's the daddy...' and if the parents can tell them their names, they spend longer looking at them.
