The relatively new Scarlet Ibis building is very nice and another couple of species are kept in it as well.

The building is a good example of Scandinavian design and was made possible by a donation. You walk right in and then you are in the visitor´s area with a free outlook into bird area. There are no real boundaries but I have as yet never experienced that the birds venture into the visitor´s area - which contains a few educational items. Also - probably rather often - some noisy humans who leave traces behind them such as half-empty ice-cream cups...

Do you know the other bird species? Are there spoonbills inside the aviary, or is that sign there just to show the difference between bird beaks/bills?

Toddy will have to help us out here, although it is possible that the answer is already at hand in one his gallery posts on this exhibit. But yes, one of the (two) other species in this exhibit is some kind of a a spoonbill.

This aviary holds scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbills and black-necked stilts. However, it is already outdated and these birds will move into a large new walkthrough aviary along with the flamingoes in about 2-3 years.

Really?! This is exciting news! Where will this aviary be situated? I take it, this development must has something to do with the creation of a new polar bear exhibit?

@Dan: You simply must start paying attention to the "Danish news" thread;) We already discussed it there. I wrote:

Copenhagen Zoo has briefly mentioned its future plans. The first project will be a large walkthrough aviary for caribbean flamingoes, scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbills and black-necked stilts, among others. The aviary is set to be complete in 2011. It is to be situated in the little marsh exhibit where the white storcks currently live in the summertime, as well as including some of the forrested area around it.
