I can tell you a bit more about this guy.
He was captured in Tanzania in 1947, at about 2 years old. Arriving in Australia by ship, he was flown to Adelaide (which was a big deal at that time - big animals were not sent by air back then.) He was Adelaide's solitary rhino for many decades but was sent to Western Plains zoo, Dubbo, when Taronga's rhinos went there.
Sorry, I don't know whether he ever bred at WPZ.
I do know that another solitary black rhino from Perth zoo was also sent east to WPZ to join what was in effect the national herd; a good example of cooperation between zoos.

Are you sure this animal went to Dubbo?
If its the same animal im thinking of, 'SINYA', his transfers are as follows;
00.00.1945 - BIRTH (wild born)
11.01.1947 - TRANSFER to Taronga Zoo
25.11.1947 - TRANSFER to Adelaide Zoo
23.06.1981 - TRANSFER to Taronga Zoo
30.08.1982 - Death
I knew that he had been removed from Adelaide (as had the single Perth rhino) to be part of the founding herd at Dubbo, but was not aware that he had not actually got there.
