As I have written before, I am not to pleased by the old polar bear grotto at Copenhagen Zoo and I am glad that things eventually will change, as has been reported by forumster Toddy.
Nevertheless, I am always happy to see that the young polar bear couple is active, playing and acting inquisitive whenever I visit their enclosure. I had some really great experiences when I visited them this summer afternoon:
The female took great big dive onto one of the fake pieces of ice and actually managed to surf it for a couple of seconds before she fell into the water. This was one of them WOW-experiences all of the visitors just took a big breath before starting to applaud and cheering what they had just seen.
Later, I went by their enclosure and was thrilled to watch the male swimming on his back, enjoying some hard to eat seafood enrichment.
The last time I visited them this afternoon, a small babys sneaker had fallen into the water don´t ask me how that happened, ask the parent! But the big male was going crazy with this sneaker throwing it many meters into the air and then catching it. The female was very curious, too. Didnt manage to fully capture this on picture but it was a joy to watch.
Here are a few pictures:
