The gorillas were locked out of the display den for the day; I think because it had been cleaned and disinfected. After the afternoon scatter feed, they chose shady spots to relax in, but Kivu happened to find a head of broccoli which must have been left over from breakfast - which must have been given on the Island while the den was being cleaned. He nonchalantly picked it up and took it back to his favourite quiet spot, walking upright, but taking care not to alert Kiondo or N'Dowe. He proceeded to eat the dark green part like a giant lollipop. But broccoli cannot be high on his list of favourite foods, because he threw the stalk away.
