Lots of action in the Tasmanian devil exhibit...

... as the little devils were all running around, screaming and howling at each other.

Forumster Kiang has in another gallery thread asked about the 2.2 configuration and whether breeding has ocurred. I was actually not aware that four animals might inhabit the exhibit, I have never seen more than two at a time before this winter visit. Today, however, I could clearly see three animals at the same time so I guess there might just as well be four of them.

No breeding has occurred, though.

Breeding has in fact occured a few times but none of the youngsters have survived. This is because of a problem with the females' nipples. Unfortunately, they are too old now to have a real chance of breeding. Negotiations are ongoing to determine of a second group will be sent. If a tasmanian devil population will be set up outside of Oceania it will start in Copenhagen.

@Toddy: you are a wealth of information!:) The sad thing about Tasmanian devils is that they only live for a few years, and now that they are seriously threatened it is going to be extremely difficult for their numbers to increase.
