Collard Pratincole

Are there pratincoles in other US zoos? They don't strike me as being a common bird in captivity.

@Chlidonias I can’t find any records of any others. I wonder whether San Diego acquired these just for this exhibit, or if they had them beforehand.

@betsy, how many did you happen to see?

@jayjds2 I was told that San Diego Zoo’s Collared pranticoles (Glareola pratincola) actually came from Pinola Aviary in Shreveport, Louisiana. I am interested to know the origin of their animals.

As far as this species in captivity elsewhere is concerned, Zootierliste did list the following collections as currently having them;

Germany: Olching Vogelpark

Czech Republic: Plzen Zoo

The Netherlands: Ruinen Vogelpark

Spain: La Puebla del Rio (Canada de los Pajaros)

Yes, I saw a few days ago that Pinola had them and was the likely source. Many of the more oddball animals around in the AZA seem to come from them, waterfowl especially. They provide freckled ducks to many institutions.
