£6m for land of the Lions, but this area could probably be improved for £60! Seriously though, less than £100 k and this area may be worth visiting again!
I went to this area specifically to see how bad it looks now, and it didn't disappoint.. As mentioned above, all that expense on the Lions yet this is left in limbo.
@Chatt Wolf There used to be enclosures on the banks of the canal housing various Cranes, Geese etc. Also rows of aviaries on the flat part along from the buildings, most of which are empty now. The building on the right was the North Entrance to the zoo with ticket booths etc but has been closed for many years now.

You are right about wasting space and even more space is wasted on a 'woodland' walk on the other side of the canal, whilst a fortune is spent on flash exhibits, basically for a single species, elsewhere in the zoo!
