@Chlidonias They are quite a big bigger than a Japanese quail, but the bird in the picture looks bigger than that, though I also find it difficult to estimate the actual size. But the bill shape looks just not right for Japanese quail and it doesn't seem to be the angle at which the picture was taken.
I did indeed see Andean Tinamou on the visit, I must have misremembered this photo as being taken in the center free-flight area as oppose to one of the glass fronted ones..
@ThylacineAlive I've also seen a photo of Andean tinamou being signed in Sedgwick County Zoo and I wondered how common they are in captivity in America? Definitely a wonderful species!
@ThylacineAlive - so how big are they? I always picture tinamous as being like big partridges rather than quail. (I've never seen a tinamou in real life).
@Chlidonias There is quite some variation in tinamou size, the smallest like tataupa tinamou are quail sized, the biggest are slightly smaller than a guineafowl...
