How can anyone even see the primates through that thick black metal? Zoos were built for people, and they only fairly recently became involved in worldwide conservation efforts. This cage is clearly outdated and definitely not people friendly, nor is it conducive to creating a positive educational outlook in terms of getting visitors to comprehend conservation values.
San Antonio is clearly failing to make any attempt to maintain itself in the league tables of exemplary zoos , unless these photos are completely selective for the worst parts of the zoo.All of these enclosures are just terrible.I have no idea of the financial situation of the zoo, but if money is a problem , I can suggest a (relatively) economic solution.Truckloads of plants - obviously drought tolerant varieties. All these enclosures are grossly under-planted.Zoos should always remember the "Garden" in "Zoological Garden" - this is the golden rule for any attractive zoo.I have never seen a horticulturally challenged zoo result attractive or be a real success in any respect.Indeed it is a vicious circle - if a zoo is not attractive to its visitors , it WILL have financial problems , and sooner rather than later.
