Eastern Bobcat

John P. McGovern Children's Zoo: Eastern Bobcat, L. r. rufus. January 6, 2018. L. r. texensis under the old taxonomy.

@TeaLovingDave Which is bizarre as, according to the taxonomy update itself, the range of texensis actually stretches further east than where Western's range is supposed to end :p However I am not bothered as I see wild Eastern fairly regularly and this will probably be my best photo of Western :p

This is an L. r. fasciatus then I suppose for those who look at this pic later and want a correct scientific name.

It's a Bobcat, at any rate :P

And I have to admit to a decent amount of envy regarding the fact you get to see wild felids - never mind having two species resident in your state and a third which is starting to pop up there :P

Indeed and as I have seen animals in California and animals in Connecticut I will have seen both subspecies at any rate.

I wouldn't exactly call Canada Lynx resident here :p But I'm sure they do pop down every once in a while and Cougars certainly do. Would love to see wild animals of both species one day, though obviously at a safe distance. Wild mammals aren't exactly my strong suit though :p I have many more wild carnivores around here that I've yet to see which would make you a lot more jealous than a couple of cats :p

Actually, Canada Lynx was the "starting to pop up there" species I was alluding to and Cougar was the resident - because no matter what the authorities say, it *is* resident in Connecticut :p
