black oystercatchers (worlds only breeding pair)

March 26, 2018
According to docents, this is the only mated and breeding pair of black oystercatchers in captivity in the entire world. They produce an average of three offspring a year (and have for many years) which are sent to other facilities.

@GiratinaIsGod Probably because Black Oystercatchers aren't in very high demand, they're aggressive birds, especially if breeding. Most places only keep one to keep aggression minimal.
