One of my worst misses, since SDZ is the only in the world keeping this species. I saw the bird, but it was already too dark to make a photo, near the closure of the zoo, and with the bird in the most far background of the enclosure
Well, here’s hoping it hangs around a while longer. It’s anout 40 years old now if I remember correctly. I need it to make it a few more months since I missed it on my first visit to San Diego!
The difficult thing with this bird is it's kept in the only aviary in that row (the first one) that doesn't have the whole space visible from the path. It dips down in the back since it's on a hill and the bird likes to hide down there. I missed it on my first day visiting the zoo and then only saw it on the second day due to getting to the zoo at opening and then heading straight to this enclosure. I got to see the bird for a matter of moments before it disappeared into the drop..
