This photo was taken last week, when many visitors like myself went to the Zoo to see him one last time. The first (and only?) polar bear to be born in the tropics was euthanized today as his age-related ailments had become too severe. He would have turned 28 years old in December. I hope he's happily rolling in the snow across the rainbow bridge.
The Singapore Zoo has pledged not to bring in any more polar bears for the foreseeable future.
@Zooish In the egregiously unlikely event they did, I'd imagine they'd add an ETFE dome over the exhibit, add soil and plant permafrost/moss. Make it a climate-controlled exhibit. But if not, they should seriously think long term about bringing in another species of bear. (Maybe American Black? Idk)
