Rhino in enclosure

This rhino statue was in the enclosure to advertise Monarto.
That's something Australian zoo goers have to accustom as long as they have their strong import regulations: Living exotic animals in their zoos will be replaced by replicas/statues...

Well to be fair rhino can be imported and it is highly unlikely that Adelaide would hold rhino ever again (with giraffes and lions planned to be sent to Monarto), but sadly I do see your point.... :)

Adelaide has now put this statue at their entrance as they have run out of empty space for it. A few years ago it was true that we felt restricted by import laws. Recently though Adelaide has imported capybara and mara, Melbourne imported coatis and a number of other species have been imported to fill the enclosures. It was simply the species we wanted couldn't be imported not that nothing could.

This habitat now has wombats in it. Not particularly interesting for the most part but the public love it when they go out for their walks each day.
