Pebas stubfoot toad individuals

Amphibian Ark, Paignton, 29th May & 12th June 2018
Best viewed at full size. I find these little toads fascinating. They are the first Atelopus species that I have had a chance to study. The two photos on the left were taken on 29th May, the rest on 12th June. The first 6 images are from the large vivarium at the bottom. I think the top row shows different views of the same individual, probably a male. The two at bottom left may show the same individual, probably a female. The last two show a probable female in the upper right hand vivarium. The vivariums seem to be kept quite dry, and the close up shots show the unusual skin texture of these toads. They seem to move very slowly, taking quite large steps with one limb at a time - see top left.
