Pitviper

I would be not so sure. The fern (that is/imitates probably an Asplenium kinda A. confusum) have some bites and scars that are unlikely to be in a plastic plant. Notice the two leaflets broken under the viper head, they even have a thin brown border that would not appear in a plastic plant. The previous pinna also have the most basal leaflet with a big bite. In my opinion this fern is real and alive.

To good to be perfect? :P
Well, you can look at the two missing leaflets just under the cheek of the viper. The leaflet with the big bite is right under the neck of the viper. And at the other side of the blurry leaf, next to left border of the photo, there is also an eaten or damaged leaflet with a thing brown border as they are in alive plants and not in plastic ones. For me this fern is clearly real.

P. S. With "stem" do you mean rachis. The true stem is underground or creeping just avobe ground.
