African Grasslands - Visitor Kopje Mini-Trail

July 25th, 2018.
@DavidBrown It's all interpretative but the zoo must have spent a fortune on the rockwork here and in the Fossil Trail area (also with zero live animals but all part of the exceptional theming in African Grasslands).

Why aren't guests allowed to climb it (there's a no climbing sign)? Are they worried about children getting injured?

@DevinL In the USA there is a vocal, litigious section of society that will sue anyone at the drop of a hat...thus providing highways with countless billboards advertising lawyers. The zoo is probably worried that someone will climb the rocks, become injured and then sue the zoo for a nonsensical reason. This is one of the reasons why I can count on one hand the number of walk-through primate exhibits in the nation, even though they are extremely common in European zoos.

@snowleopard To rock climb at any gym in the US or even a fair, you generally have to fill out several form and sign away your right to sue (although people still try to). Its rather annoying considering I can go easily climb rocks in places such as Central Park on my own. Gotta love lawsuit culture
