@DavidBrown It's all interpretative but the zoo must have spent a fortune on the rockwork here and in the Fossil Trail area (also with zero live animals but all part of the exceptional theming in African Grasslands).
@DevinL In the USA there is a vocal, litigious section of society that will sue anyone at the drop of a hat...thus providing highways with countless billboards advertising lawyers. The zoo is probably worried that someone will climb the rocks, become injured and then sue the zoo for a nonsensical reason. This is one of the reasons why I can count on one hand the number of walk-through primate exhibits in the nation, even though they are extremely common in European zoos.
@snowleopard To rock climb at any gym in the US or even a fair, you generally have to fill out several form and sign away your right to sue (although people still try to). Its rather annoying considering I can go easily climb rocks in places such as Central Park on my own. Gotta love lawsuit culture
