Any chance this exhibit is meant to be an illustration of the rampant deforestation that is currently plaguing the orangutan's natural habitat?

I got the impression it was meant to be for hoofstock, or something similar, and was repurposed.

@Hix - whereabouts in the zoo is this? They used to only have one Orangutan enclosure, next to the Chimps, which is still in use because I see you also took a photo of it.

Right at the top of the zoo. The building behind at the top of the enclosure is the Ape house. And directly behind me when I took this photo are the old hippo pools (that are heavily overgrown and, I'm guessing, abandoned).

So I guess this backs onto the "other" Orangutan enclosure? Maybe they are joined.

@Coelacanth18 I thought there was a sign about deforestation on this enclosure.
