Very interesting mix, not often you see Malayans in a mixed exhibit like this. Were there any interactions at all?
And which zoo did you prefer; Beauval or Doue? I know you visited others but those two are the ones I'm most interested in. Doue looks absolutely beautiful and has multiple subspecies of leopard, as well as the two most interesting looking aviaries I've ever seen.
@Brum Didn't see any interactions to speak of - everything seemed to basically be ignoring everything else!
They're actually tricky zoos to compare - Doue is excellent, but Beauval is two or three times the size, both in area and species. Beauval you have to clock-watch to get around everything in a day - Doue you could do in a couple of hours if you had to (though I certainly wouldn't recommend it!).
Both are very mammally-birdy - Beauval's herp/fish collection is reasonable but underwhelming in comparison with the other groups - Doue's is almost non-existent with just half-a-dozen reptile species in very average enclosures (though they have bred dwarf crocs).
Both have outstanding free-flight birds (in the huge aviary at Doue and the bird show at Beauval) and both have an excellent African ungulate aviary (okapis at Doue and hippos at Beauval).
