Meerkat : Hamerton : 08 Sep 2018

Suricata suricatta.
Does anyone know where Hamerton originally got their meerkats from? I'm yet to see any other UK facility or private owner with northern meerkats..

The Meerkats are descended from 2 pairs imported from a private collection near Johannesburg, along with Hamerton's Southern Aardwolf. The zoo currently has two groups.
The previous Meerkats at Hamerton were bred to 6 generations from animals received from Ravensden, but all of this line were dispersed when the South African ones arrived.
(Thanks to A.S. at Hamerton for this information)
