Banded Gila monster : Hamerton : 08 Sep 2018

Heloderma suspectum cinctum.
Photography side-note: this was my very first attempt at the technique of focus-stacking, whereby a number of photos are taken (in this case, three) focussing on different parts of the subject - these being later combined into one image to give a greater apparent depth-of-field. Some cameras are able to do this in-camera, but in this instance I used photo-editing software to combine the images.

Not entirely successful (part of the body is slightly soft), but it is probably something I'll do more of in the future.
 
Nicely done. It's a method i tried previously for cub/pup litters and probably have lots of photos I had intended stacking.
 
It's an interesting technique and a nice static subject to try it on. I hope you continue to experiment and to brief us afterwards ;)
