Savanna, September 2018

Scimitar-horned oryx and giraffe. The zebra were off show on this particular occasion. On another, the oryx were offshow. I somehow missed the Talks so don't know why. There are also ostrich, and white rhino who are separated by a rock barrier. I believe Paignton were influenced by this exhibit when making their Savanna plans.

The zebra can't be trusted in the exhibit while the Oryx have young, so they rotate them. The reason for the separation of the rhinos is because the zebras attacked them when first mixed and the rhinos panicked and charged, and in the following chaos one of the zebra was mortally wounded. After this the enclosure had to be altered with the addition of the rock barrier.

I have to say your pictures and reviews are very good and show the zoo at its best.
