The banners of colorful triangular little partyflags were there because Dierenpark Amersfoort celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018, having first opened its doors on May 22nd, 1948.
For a fairly large zoo with an impressive number of annual visitors, this entrance is a little underwhelming. Hopefully there aren't massive line-ups in the summer!
@snowleopard It is not very big indeed, although admittedly this picture doesn't show all of it. That said there's actually quite a few ticket offices so unless you were to go there on a really busy day I don't think it would be that much of an issue. Also, thinking about it after your comment, Amersfoort really isn't the only zoo with a fairly small entrance when considering the size of the zoo and the number of visitors.
