I'd love to see kagu,but it is another species U.K. zoos don't seem interested in,
 
@gentle lemur What was this zoo like back in the 1970s? Did they still have the big animals like giraffes, elephants, rhinos, etc. or had they been moved out even back then?
 
@DavidBrown I haven't been back since, so I had to refresh my memory about the place. Fortunately I recently found the brief notes I made that day, and I also have the guidebook I bought, as well as a few photos (I had some camera problems). There were none of the species you mentioned, which were all kept at Vincennes. There were fine groups of both species of bison, Przewalskis, onagers, nyala and Indian buffaloes, with several species of sheep and goats. There was a nice collection of birds including goliath herons, several species of fireback pheasants and Palawan peacock pheasants (rare in zoos at the time). There was a large collection of crocodiles in an awful house with small barred enclosures for some individual big crocs including gavials.
