Giant Eland

bicolored-spined porcupine (Coendou bicolor) 2010

labeled as such, will check my Lynx handbook
After checking my Lynx book, this would unfortunately appear to be a Brazilian porcupine (Coendou prehensilis), with no chance at a bicolored-spined porcupine (Coendou bicolor). Ugh, there's nothing I hate more than removing species from my life list.

Would be interested to know how the zoo came to the decision of C. bicolor when this looks nothing like that species (which is never kept in zoos) and looks everything like a C. prehensilis (which is often kept in zoos.)

@Giant Eland - it's prehensilis. I said this on the other photo (ThylacineAlive's photo), in bicolor the quills are bicoloured (pale at the base and then black) while in prehensilis the quills are tri-coloured (with white tips, which is why prehensilis always looks speckled). Lots of misidentified photos on the internet though, which confuses things if you're just trying to use photos to match ID's..
