The toucan is a reference to Van der Valk, a well-known Dutch hotel chain. The hotel chain owned the Avifauna bird park (founded in 1950) between 1956 and 2012. The Van der Valk chain still has a hotel right next to the park and still runs the catering at the and is still Avifauna's main patron.
