Giant Eland

Zoo Map

Scottish red deer, new subspecies for me, and happened to be on the way back from Monkey World to Bristol. Was my 5th Zoo of the day!

Indeed @snowleopard

Here was my day:

1. Bristol Zoo
2. Noah's Ark Zoo Farm (arrived to find they're closed on Sundays, keeper at entrance wouldn't make an exception for me haha. I did see horses from the entrance, very questionable if this actually counts as a visit!)
3. Axe Valley Wildlife Park
4. Monkey World Ape Rescue
5. Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park

All while driving on the other side of the road, and increasingly narrow roads at that!

Later on my trip I would officially hit 5 zoos in 1 day in Czech Republic which was even more impressive because each was at least 1 hour away from the next!

@Giant Eland Thanks for the details, although I personally would not count your experience at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm as a visit. Axe Valley and Avon Valley both seem interesting (judging from the ZooChat gallery) and Monkey World is semi-famous for its television series that is shown here in Canada.

@snowleopard Yea I only count it with an asterisk. Can't believe I went to 2 "Valley" Zoos in the same day haha. Axe was a lovely experience. A keeper there helped me with photographing both the Egyptian Mongoose and the African Civet. Very impressive collection considering their overall smaller size. Only had about an hour at Avon Valley at the end of the day, but beautiful setting for sure!

I definitely wouldn't count Noah's Ark as a visit, especially considering they have multiple indoor exhibits :p You should have been able to see Carpathian Red Deer from outside the entrance, though. Then again personally I don't know if I'd even consider most of your visits as true visits. Just impo visiting one or two enclosures and then leaving does not a proper zoo visit make.

As for your Czech run it should have taken you at least 6 hours of driving total so not surprised you didn't get to your fifth zoo (Prague) until after closing either ;) :p

@ThylacineAlive

Of course, that Czech day was intense, and nearly impossible to pull off!

And heyy, mosttt of my visits are true visits. It's a small percentage where I visit only a couple enclosures. I usually see a good 80% of the zoo.

@Giant Eland Sorry to bring up some old comments, but what species were you after at the 5 zoos listed above? Thanks.

@ThomasNotTom thanks for the inquiry! Had 1 lifer target (one of which was a subspecies) at each location with some rare species I hadn't seen in a while and could hope for more updated photos of.

1. Bristol Zoo: Livingstone's fruit bat (plus eastern quoll)
2. Noah's Ark Zoo Farm: oldfield mouse
3. Axe Valley Wildlife Park: Egyptian mongoose (plus African civet)
4. Monkey World Ape Rescue: white-throated guenon (plus stump tailed macaque)
5. Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park: Scottish red deer
