@AWP I did look at some of the pictures I took during my previous visit to Avifauna in June of 2014 and at that time at least one of the two now empty aviaries indeed held owl species.
 
I remember great grey owls as inhabitans of one of these aviaries some years ago. At my first visit to Avifauna, this hilly area consisted of several aviaries for birds of prey, most notably king vulture, Andean condor and hawks.
 
In these aviaries or similar ones? That sounds pretty bad.

These aviaries seemed pretty small for the owls to me, let alone for such big birds of prey.

They are okay for the current, smaller inhabitants though.
 
I guess the aviaries for vultures and hawks were bigger, but located on this hill.
