Jardin des Plantes 2002 - Old cage

I cannot remember what, if anything, was kept in this old cage.

Thank you for this, but as I'm not sure what, if anything, was in 2002, I think it would be best to leave it like this.

Thanks; even if old, I guess it's enough for raccons and such.

Until 2002 this cage kept a pair of mandrills which were sent to Bioparco di Roma.

So before the raccoons, Quasimodo the mandrill and Esmeralda the mandrill lived here.
I read their names in the Bioparco guidebook. Of course, the cathedral of notre Dame is very near the jardin des Plantes, just across the river. Was this some kind of recognition to Victor Hugo or Anthony Quinn by the zookeepers ? Did they like the Disney cartoon at all ? Remember that poor Quasimodo lived in a dark tower and never fulfilled his love for Esmeralda the gypsy. Well, anyway Quasimodo the mandrill and Esmeralda the mandrill live now in a very nice exhibit at the Bioparco and have had offspring that did not recieve literary names.
