Following on from the earlier photo, the badly damaged tree broke in two and now its companions have been felled. Hopefully there are plans to replace them with sway poles or climbing frames. The island is an example of how orangs can destroy their zoo habitat. The first ones to use it, the ex-ZSL group, didn't climb or venture out much, although the male, Nakal, did strip bark from the trees on the small island. So it's probably taken 10 or so years for it to get to this state. I'll try to find a photo of how it looked when the exhibit opened 20 years ago.
I've had a look back through the Gallery and there are assorted photos of the orang islands for 1999, 2002 and 2006 on page 45; 2015 on page 48; and 2014 on page 59. Looking back through my albums will take a lot longer.
