Giant Eland

Panay cloudrunner (Crateromys heaneyi)

FINALLY! After striking out at London and LA, and them arriving in Czech Republic after I was there in 2010, I finally get to see this species!
I didn't even see this species despite TWO visits to the behind the scenes area in Plzen (and neither did I see them in London or Prague)

@ralph Yes they can be quite elusive little buggers. LA was the worst because that was the main reason I visited LA that year and turns out these animals only ever left their nest box after midnight- obviously long after the zoo had closed.

@Giant Eland I feel like "quite elusive" doesn't decribe their way of life enough. When I imagine that you had to basically go directly into the cage and take bunch of rubbish out of their nest to make this photo... :D

@Giant Eland I was working there for a while during summer so I know very well what you need to do to actually see them :D But when I visited Prague in September, they have/had(?) then on show and I was lucky enough to see them active :)
