American plains bison paddock (Nov 10th, 2018)

Now that is an interesting barrier...almost scary!

@snowleopard Having visited the Rotterdam Zoo over 10 times I'm kinda used to this one by now, but it is still the only time I've ever seen a cattle grid with American bison, or used as a barrier for that matter. That said, there is some additional hotwiring so I don't think it is unsafe at all.

@KevinB I've seen it used for them as well, except without hotwire. It keeps the bison in surprisingly well.

At a rather obscure, tiny zoo in Nebraska called Riverside Discovery Center there is an almost identical setup for the American Bison/Mule Deer exhibit:
