@Kakapo Care to clarify *which* of the two species he named you think it is? :p Or are you sticking to a mathematician's answer?

@TeaLovingDave I'm talking about the species he mentioned, so it's a greater (including American) flamingo, Phoenicopterus ruber. For more precision, it's the Old World subspecies (roseus), due to the hue of feathers and bill.

@Kakapo well, yes, but he mentioned two species: greater AND American. They’re so remarkably different I’m surprised anyone would still consider them the same.

Remarkably different? Can you tell me any difference besides the (almost null taxonomic value in general) differente in hue of plumage and hue of the bill? The two subspecies have been equally different since ever (they are not more different now than before the change), and the entire world considered as part of the same species before, so I don't see why we should accept that change...

@Kakapo the genetics do suggest that roseus and ruber are sister species, with a 2014 study estimating the separation period of Old World/New World populations at between 700,000 and 1,100,000 years.

But regardless of that, your original reply was just really unhelpful given that two different taxa were proposed.
