Unhelpful???
-The author of the image posted here asking for the species.
-A member reply to the image telling that he believe to be a thing (with its two variants), but just proposing, without ensuring the ID.
-Then I confirm, ensuring the ID, i. e. making clear that is not any of the other flamingo species (chilean, lesser, andean and Jame's) but the greater,
-Hence, your definition of "helpful" it's a bit beyond my understanding...
@Kakapo - Yes. Two different taxa were proposed as the ID. You "confirmed" in the singular without any further comment. It is irrelevant whether one treats the two taxa as subspecies or species because it is clearly not useful to simply say "yes I confirm. is the species mentioned by CarLover" when there were two suggestions on offer.
The two subspecies have been equally different since ever (they are not more different now than before the change), and the entire world considered as part of the same species before, so I don't see why we should accept that change...
Appeal to tradition isn't always the best argument - one might as well say that "Czechia and Slovakia have been equally different since ever (they are not more different now than before the change), and the entire world considered as part of the same country before, so I don't see why we should accept that change" also, Chilean Flamingo was once lumped into P. ruber too, so I'm curious as to why you split that if tradition is all-important?
