Appalling and disgraceful terrarium with lone meerkat (Aug 28th, 2018)

As shown earlier in this gallery, this disgrace of a terrarium used to house an Argentinian black-and-white tegu:

And while the terrarium was probably on the small side and just barely adequate for a fairly hefty lizard like a tegu, I would say it is totally and appallingly unsuitable for meerkats.

Also, this meerkat was all by itself - I do not know why, there was no explanation at all, not a single piece of signage. Perhaps this animal had been rejected from its group or was undergoing treatment for illness or injury, or in quarantine, but I have no idea. It would have been interesting if they had given that information - but in that case it would probably have been much better for the animal to undergo those circumstances behind the scenes.

In any case, a sad sight and one of the worst things I have ever seen at any zoo I've visited. Admittedly I have never visited any of the crapholes that are featured at this website, but this exhibit would fit right in at such a place.

Also noticed how they tried to fix this piece of junk up with black tape. This terrarium belongs on the dump as far as I'm concerned.

I did some research and came across surprisingly few truly poor meerkat exhibits, and nothing quite this bad elsewhere on this forum. The only things as appalling I could find where images of meerkats in tiny cages in pet shops or in peoples homes as pets.
